Strong showing at the Izegem Koers

Performance Director Jonas Carney on the team’s recent efforts at the Izegem Koers, where Ken Hanson captured second place just behind world class sprinter Andrea Guardini.

Today was the Izegem Koers, one of the bigger kermesses in Belgium. It was a 162km circuit race in Izegem featuring riders from Radioshack, Garmin, Landbouwkrediet, Saxo Bank, Rusvelo, Accent Jobs, Caja Rural, Movistar, Farnese Vini, etc…
It was a flat, fast, and technical course. 16 laps of just over 10 kilometers per lap. There were tons of attacks early and the pace was blistering. As a result it took an hour for the break to establish itself. It was 16 riders, with representation from Garmin, Radioshack, Landbouwkrediet, etc… Soladay was there for us and the break gained almost 2 minutes. Accent Jobs missed the move and chased hard, but it took until the final laps before they started to close in on the break. The break split in half, and Soladay made the selection, but they would not make it. Jesse covered the final dangerous attack of the day and stayed clear with Sep Van Marcke (Garmin) until 3k to go.
At 2k to go Zirbel, Zwizanski, Friedman and Hanson lined it up, They took the front, and led into the final two corners. Ken jumped a bit too early, leading the sprint out for 350 meters. The only rider to come around him was Andrea Guardini from Farnese…one of the worlds fastest sprinters.
It was a good day for the guys and a confidence builder leading up to Chrono Champenois, GP de la Somme, and the World Team Time Trial Championships.
