Brianna Walle 2nd in TOC Time Trial / Zirbel Grabs 11th

The Optum p/b KBS women placed 2 riders in the top 10 of the Tour of California time trial today. Brianna Walle had an excellent 2 days in California finishing 3rd in yesterday’s circuit race in Sacramento and blasting home to 2nd in the TT today. Her teammate Annie Ewart also finished 9th. Walle was happy with her ride and now looks toward the US National Championships to podium there as well.

Tom Zirbel had hoped for a top 5 ride today but still managed a decent ride coming home in 11th place. This TT served as Tom’s final race simulation before his upcoming National Championship defense in 2 weeks time. Carter Jones rode well also to keep himself in contention as the Tour of the Gila champion looks for a top 10 results overall this week.

from Velonews:
“The course suited me really well this year and it was an honor to wear the stars and stripes in the biggest race on American soil, but I’m a little disappointed that I wasn’t in the hunt for a podium today,” Zirbel said. “I wasn’t quite able to ride at the level that I was hoping for.‎”

Race Report from Jonas Carney
Today was the Folsom Time Trial at the ATOC…a 20k out and back course with some tough rollers. We had three guys (Zirbel, Zwizanski, and Jones) riding 100% and the rest of the guys saving it for the upcoming stages. Zirbel was our best bet for a result and is certainly capable of a top 5 ride. He had a very solid performance finishing 11th on the day, just 20 seconds from 4th place. While it wasn’t exactly what he was hoping for, it bodes well for the upcoming USPRO time trial championship in less than two weeks as most of the riders finishing ahead of him were European World Tour riders. Jones had a solid day and should be well positioned going into tomorrows mountain top finish at Mt. Diablo.
