Team accepts invite to La Course, first ever women’s race at Tour de France

Optum Pro Cycling presented by Kelly Benefit Strategies has graciously accepted an invitation to compete in the inaugural La Course by Le Tour de France, a circuit race on July 27th coinciding with the 21st and final stage of the world’s premiere cycling race. Running through the heart of Paris on the Champs-Élysées, the 12-lap race across the Tour de France’s beautiful final circuit will be broadcast internationally and is poised to become an iconic race on the women’s calendar. The winner of La Course will collect a prize of €22,500, the same sum awarded to Tour stage winners.

“It is truly an honor to receive an invite to La Course,” said women’s Performance Director Kevin Field. “I think our team proved at (England’s) Women’s Tour that they can compete against the world’s top talent, and to have an opportunity to race on the the Champs-Élysées in front of millions will be spectacular.”

Six women will be chosen to represent Optum p/b KBS inside the 100 rider peloton. The race features two significant departures from the Tour de France’s century-old tradition; an all-female jury will oversee the race, and athletes’ talented enough to land on the podium will receive the customary cheek-kiss from men.

Other prizes available at La Course will be a sprint classification determined by intermediate sprint lines, and the best overall rider under 25.
