Ryan Anderson and Guillaume Boivin sprinted to second and third place in last night’s stage 2 of the North Star Grand Prix. Stefan Rothe (Elbowz Racing) claimed the stage victory after riding the majority of the race as part of a three man break with Bryan Stevens (Champion System-Stan’s NoTubes) and Andrew Dalheim (Canyon Bicycles – Shimano). Ben Hill (Donkey Label Racing) claimed the yellow jersey by winning the first time bonus sprint and leading Tom Zirbel by one second.
This year’s evening criterium was moved to the historic Lowertown area of downtown St. Paul. The course was considerably shorter from previous years and the new 1.2km course made for very quick and aggressive laps. The Orange & Black controlled the front of the main group and was eventually able to regain with the break with the exception of Rothe. A crash along the barricades in the final sprint claimed Jesse Anthony who took and hard fall but was eventually able to finish the race.
